My Review

Who can you trust? Anyone? Nobody?

Anne and Marco Conti go to a dinner party at their next door neighbors. Cynthia and Graham. It was Graham’s birthday dinner. Cynthia doesn’t want any baby’s at the dinner party. Anne and Marco had booked a babysitter, but unfortunately at the last-minute. The babysitter cancels. What choice will they make?

Marco convinces Anne that baby Cora would be fine asleep, next door with the baby monitor and to check on her every 30 minutes. Since Cora had been born 6 months earlier, they have had very few social interactions with their friends etc.

When Anne and Marco go home, They immediately notice the front door is partly open ( which she locked on her last check ) They ran upstairs to Cora’s bedroom. And she was gone from her crib along with her blanket. Anne and Marco frantically looked in each room in the house, but she was gone.

Marco phoned the police. And Detective Rasbach and Detective Jennings was assigned to the case to begin the search for Baby Cora…. I will not say, any more as I don’t want to spoil anything for you.

Characters: 4*

Anne Conti – I took to her straight away, she is a likable character and I felt protective and felt sorry for her all the way through the book especially as she was suffering from postpartum depression & another mental illness.

Marco Conti – He was a very engaging and interesting character. I did feel for him but at the same time, I kept doubting him, He was from an Italian family who worked for everything, they had. He doesn’t have any contact with his family since he was 18 and he was chucked out to look and provide for himself.

Alice and Richard Dries

( Anne’s Parents )

Alice Dries – I really liked her character from the snippets, we were fed throughout the book. She seems to have been a good mother, who will protect and do almost anything for her daughter.

Richard Dries – Anne Conti’s Father, well step-father ( Her real father died when Anne was a small child) He’s taken in Anne as his own. He seems to have been the perfect father, a popular and well-liked businessman etc. Although throughout the book, I felt an uneasy feeling about him.

Detective Rasbach – I don’t know, I didn’t fully connect with him at all, I thought he was a bit bland and boring, but he did work within the plot and novel. I think his character could have been given more depth.

Detective Jennings – We only had drips and drabs of Jennings throughout the investigation. So I can’t really comment on his character. But he seems to be a detective who gets down to his work.

Plot: 4.5*

I loved this book. The plot was interesting, full of twists and turns around every corner. Once you thought you knew who and what was really going on, it twisted again, It had you on the edge of your seat and second guessing. It was hard to put down.

Writing Style: 5*

I really like Shari’s writing style, It was an enjoyable and a very easy read.

Pacing: 4.5*

I thought the pacing was spot on. It was fast paced but it wasn’t so fast paced that I got lost and confused. I think it was the right kind of fast pacing. Kept you on your toes and wanting more. I never got bored.

Cover: 5*

I LOVE the cover, but I do love Turquoise though ( haha). It grabbed my attention from the first time I saw it. It is not too in your face, but not too boring either, I think the color and bold text really catches your eye.

Final word:

In simple and non-fancy words. I LOVED it and I also like Shari as an author/writer. I can’t wait for her other books in the future. Really looking forward to it.

Would you recommend this books to others?

Of course, Hell Yes!
